Legacy data migration approach
Why migrations stall
Teams often inherit exports they cannot explain: duplicate natural keys, implicit timezone rules, and batch ordering that only one retired operator remembers. We treat those as first-class requirements, not cleanup tasks for later.
Engagement shapes
Discovery and mapping — Read-only access to schemas, job logs, and representative samples. Deliverable: a migration workbook with field-level notes and open risks.
Technical review — You already have a vendor or internal team; we stress-test mapping documents, idempotency, and rollback assumptions before money is committed to a cutover date.
Implementation support — Paired sprints with your engineers: loader code, verification SQL, and runbooks written in your repository standards.
Fees and contract terms are agreed per project after scoping; this site does not list fixed packages.
Typical legacy sources
- IBM i / AS400 and DB2 exports with packed decimals
- SQL Server 2000–2012 schemas with triggers that enforce policy logic
- Flat files produced from COBOL copybooks
- Oracle Forms applications persisting business rules in PL/SQL
- Access and Excel systems that became “temporary” infrastructure
What we need from you
A named technical contact, read-only connectivity or sanitized dumps, and a list of reports finance uses to close books. With that, we can propose a phased plan with explicit reconciliation gates.
